''Catch up on the details of the Request for Proposals for Bid Window Round 7 and the recently extended deadline."
The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) extended a formal invitation to potential bidders to submit proposals during the Seventh Bid Submission Phase (Bid Window 7) of the Renewable Energy Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (REIPPPP).
This particular bidding round marked the program's alignment with the Third Ministerial Determination, ratified by NERSA in December 2022, aiming to secure 14,771 MW of additional generation capacity. The allocation comprised:
3940 MW of Photovoltaic (PV) energy;
9600 MW of Wind energy; and
1231 MW of Battery Energy Storage Capacity.
Under the Request for Proposals (RFP), Independent Power Producers (IPPs) were invited to propose projects totaling 5000 MW of new generation capacity, including 1800 MW from Solar PV and 3200 MW from Wind Power.
In the past, this RFP requested proposals from Independent Power Producers (IPPs) to develop 5000 MW of new generation capacity, incorporating 1800 MW of Solar PV and 3200 MW of Wind Power.
Bidders are advised to review the available supply areas listed in the Generation Connection Capacity Assessment (GCCA) of the 2025 Transmission Network (GCCA 2025). The GCCA document can be accessed on the Eskom website via the following link: https://www.eskom.co.za/eskom-divisions/tx/gcca/gcca-2025/.
To facilitate the timely issuance of Cost Estimate Letters (CELs) to Bidders ahead of Bid Submission, it is necessary for Bidders to apply for a CEL no later than 90 days before the Bid Submission date. This allows Eskom adequate time to process all received CEL applications within the specified timeframe (up to 90 days).
It's crucial for potential bidders to be mindful of the final deadlines outlined for Bid Window 7.
